Future Voices Africa is a youth essay competition created to discover practical ideas from young people in Ghana and Nigeria.

You know the challenges in your community. We want to hear what you would change—and how you would make it happen. Bring a clear argument, credible evidence and a solution grounded in real life.

Open to Ghanaian and Nigerian citizens aged 16–30 on the published age-reference date. SHS/SSS students, university, polytechnic and technical university students, graduates, young professionals and young entrepreneurs may enter. You do not need to be a current student.

Age-reference date: 2026-01-01. Entrants under 18 require parent or guardian permission.

ESSAY REQUIREMENTS

Make every
word count.

  • 1,200–1,500 words, written in English
  • A clearly identified problem and practical solution
  • Your original work, with sources acknowledged
  • One essay per person, submitted through your dashboard
  • Be ready to personally explain and defend your ideas

Plagiarism and submitting work you cannot defend may lead to disqualification. We make no claims that AI detectors reliably establish authorship.

Shortlisted finalists may be invited to a 5–10 minute online interview to discuss and defend their essay. We want to understand your ideas in your own words.

Identity or student documents are requested only when necessary for finalists or winners—not from every entrant at registration.

Before you enter

Who can participate?

Ghanaian and Nigerian citizens aged 16–30 on the published age-reference date. Select your country during registration.

Can I participate if I am not currently a student?

Yes. Graduates, young professionals and young entrepreneurs are welcome.

Can I submit more than one essay?

One paid entry and one essay per person per competition year. Duplicate accounts are not permitted.

Can I edit my essay after submission?

One final revision is allowed within the configured edit window shown on your dashboard, subject to the submission deadline. The default window is 24 hours.

Are entry fees refundable?

See the Refund Policy. Duplicate charges and organizer cancellation are reviewed for refund; statutory rights are preserved.

Can Ghanaian entrants pay in naira?

No. Ghanaian entries are priced and verified in Ghana cedis (GHS).

Can Nigerian entrants pay in cedis?

No. Nigerian entries are priced and verified in Nigerian naira (NGN).

How will finalists be contacted?

Using the verified email and phone details supplied during registration. Keep your details current.

How are winners selected?

Assigned judges use the published 100-point criteria. The organizer reviews scores, eligibility and verification before confirming winners. Public votes do not select the overall winner.

Are AI-generated essays allowed?

Submit your own thinking and writing. Do not submit an essay generated by someone else or an AI system as your own. Basic spelling and grammar assistance is permitted; disclose material assistance. We do not claim that AI detectors reliably prove authorship.

What happens if plagiarism is discovered?

The organizer may request an explanation, disqualify the entry and withhold or recover an award, subject to review and applicable law.

When will winners be announced?

Winners will be announced on 7 November 2026. Finalists will be contacted using their registered email and phone details.
